Your car has a front passenger air bag that is switched on. Where should you install a rear-facing infant car seat?
A cutaway of car A shows an empty rear bench and front seats, with its front at the right. The card states that the front passenger air bag is switched on; no seat position is selected.
Correct answer: In the back seat; never in front of an active air bag.
Why
A front air bag opens in a fraction of a second and strikes the back of a rear-facing seat, near the baby's head. Children under 13 are safest in the back seat, even in a car without air bags. Air bags only add to belts; everyone must still be buckled, and children must be in the correct restraint.
