You drive on a two-lane highway with a 55 mph limit. Dense fog lets you see only about 150 feet ahead. What does Ohio law require you to do?
A drives on a two-lane road where dense fog makes the lane markings disappear ahead. The card gives approximately 150 feet of visibility and a 55 mph posted limit. No stopping mark is shown in the question.
Correct answer: Slow down until you can stop within the distance that you can see.
Why
Ohio law says that no one may drive faster than lets the driver stop within the assured clear distance ahead (ORC 4511.21(A)). Posted limits assume dry weather and a clear view, so fog, rain, snow or heavy traffic can make the safe and lawful speed much lower than the sign. In fog, use low beams and slow down until your stopping distance fits inside the distance you can see.
