You find an open space on a city street. If you park there, the front bumper of your car will be 6 feet from a fire hydrant. May you park in the space?
A is shown in a proposed curb space with its front bumper 6 feet before a fire hydrant. No parking-distance answer or minimum boundary is marked in the question image.
Correct answer: No. You must keep your vehicle at least 10 feet away from a fire hydrant
Why
Firefighters need a clear space at a hydrant so that they can connect their hoses quickly. A car that is parked or waiting next to the hydrant can delay the water supply to a fire. The same Ohio law also keeps vehicles off sidewalks and out of the space in front of a driveway.
