Passing target: 75% (30/40)
You park on a street that slopes steeply downhill and has a curb. You will leave the car there for an hour. What should you do before you walk away?
A is beside the right curb of a street that slopes downhill in the direction the car faces. The side-profile line shows the slope, and the card states that the driver will leave for an hour.
Correct answer: Turn the front wheels toward the curb, shift to Park, set the parking brake, and turn off the engine
Why
A car that is parked on a slope can roll away if the brake or the transmission does not hold, and a runaway car can hit people and other vehicles. Ohio law does not let you leave a car unattended unless you stop the engine, set the parking brake and, on a grade, turn the front wheels to the curb or side of the road. The same law also requires you to remove the key, unless the car is locked or is parked on residential property.
