On a two-lane road with a broken yellow center line, you are behind a slow car. Ahead, the road climbs to a hilltop, and you cannot see past it. What should you do?
A follows slow car B on a two-lane road with a broken yellow center line. A separate side profile identifies the hill crest that hides the road beyond it.
Correct answer: Stay behind it until you are past the hilltop and can see enough clear road.
Why
Ohio law forbids driving on the left side of the road near the top of a hill or on a curve where you cannot see far enough ahead to be safe, and within 100 feet of an intersection or railroad crossing, or of a bridge or tunnel when the view is blocked (ORC 4511.30). An oncoming car can appear over a hill with no warning, and a head-on crash at highway speed is often fatal. Wait until you have a long, clear view, then check again before you pull out.
