Turns, Lanes, Passing & MergingStandalone practice
You want to move from the right lane to the left lane on a multi-lane road. Which order of steps is correct?
Correct answer: Check the mirrors and blind spot, find a gap, signal, look again, move over, cancel the signal.
Why
The second look after you signal catches a vehicle that moved into the gap or sped up. Ohio law requires you to make sure that the move is safe and to signal before you move right or left (ORC 4511.33 and 4511.39). Steer smoothly and adjust your speed to the new lane; a signal left on after the move can confuse other drivers.
