Passing target: 75% (30/40)
A road has two lanes in each direction and no median. A school bus that heads south stops in the right southbound lane. Its red lights flash and its stop arm is out. Which drivers must stop?
B is stopped in the right southbound lane of a four-lane road with only yellow center lines and no median. Its red warning lamps are on and its STOP arm is extended; A and C approach behind B in both southbound lanes, while D travels north.
Correct answer: Only the southbound drivers, in both southbound lanes behind the bus
Why
On a road with four or more lanes, a school bus must load and unload children on the side of the road where they live, so they do not cross all the lanes. That is why traffic from the other direction may keep moving. Drivers behind the bus must wait until it starts to move again or its driver waves them on.
