Passing target: 80% (16/20)
You are stopped at a railroad crossing. The gate is down and the red lights flash, but after two minutes you still see no train. The driver ahead of you goes around the gate. What must you do?
A is stopped before a lowered railroad gate and flashing red warning lights, with no train visible. B has moved around the gate through the opposing lane; the card says two minutes have passed.
Correct answer: Stay stopped behind the gate until it goes up and the lights stop flashing.
Why
In Oklahoma, a lowered gate or a flashing crossing signal requires you to stop not more than 50 feet and not less than 15 feet from the nearest rail. It is against the law to go around a closed gate, even when other drivers do it. A train's large size makes it look slower and farther away than it is, so a clear view down the track is not proof that it is safe to cross.
