Passing target: 80% (16/20)
You wait at a crossing that has a crossbuck but no lights or gates. The sign below the crossbuck reads 2 TRACKS. The last car of a long freight train has just passed on the near track. When may you cross?
A waits before two railroad tracks marked by a crossbuck and a 2 TRACKS plaque, with no warning lamps or gates. The last freight car has cleared the roadway on the near track and continues to the right.
Correct answer: When you see no train coming on any track from either direction.
Why
The sign under the crossbuck shows how many tracks the crossing has, so you know how many tracks to check. When the last car passes, the first train can still block the view and the sound of a second train on another track. Oklahoma law requires you to stop 15 to 50 feet from the nearest rail when a train is near or the tracks are not clear, and not to go until you can cross safely.
