You parallel park facing downhill on a street with a curb. How should you set your front wheels before you leave the car?
A is parked facing downhill with the curb on its right. A separate side-profile line shows the slope; the question does not select a front-wheel setting.
Correct answer: Turn them toward the curb and ease forward until a tire touches the curb
Why
A car parked on a slope can roll if the parking brake fails or is not set. When you face downhill, the curb is your backup: with the wheels turned toward it, a forward roll pushes the tire into the curb. Stop within 6 inches of the curb, set the parking brake, and shift into park (or reverse in a car with a manual transmission). Oklahoma law also says that a car left on any grade must have its front wheels turned to the curb or to the side of the road.
