Passing target: 80% (16/20)
You want to let a passenger out at a corner store. The intersection has no stop sign or traffic signal. The only open curb space is on the marked crosswalk at the corner, and your stop will take less than a minute. Where may you stop?
A approaches an uncontrolled corner for a brief passenger drop-off. A dashed outline identifies the proposed space overlapping the marked crosswalk.
Correct answer: At the curb at least 20 feet back from the crosswalk, if no sign forbids it
Why
A car on a crosswalk makes people on foot walk around it into traffic, and a car close to the corner can hide them from other drivers. Oklahoma law does not let you stop, stand or park on a crosswalk or within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection. The only exceptions are to avoid other traffic or to obey an officer, a traffic-control device or another law. A short stop with the flashers on is still a stop. Where a stop sign or signal stands at the side of the road, stay at least 30 feet back from it.
