Passing target: 80% (16/20)
Your car stalls on a railroad track. The crossing lights start to flash, and you see a train that comes toward the crossing from your left. What should you do?
A is stalled across railroad tracks as train B approaches from the left. A crossbuck and flashing red warning lamps stand beside A’s approach; no escape path is shown in the question.
Correct answer: Get everyone out and move away from the tracks at an angle, toward the side the train comes from.
Why
When the warning lights start, a train can arrive in as little as 20 seconds, so do not try to save the car. A crash throws the car and its parts forward along the tracks, and an angle toward the train keeps you out of that path. If your car is stuck and no warning is active yet, get out and call 911 and the Emergency Notification System number on the blue and white sign at the crossing.
