Passing target: 16 correct signs and 16 correct rules (TLA practice targets)
At a four-way intersection, all traffic lights are blank after a power failure. No officer or temporary traffic control is directing you. According to the MTO handbook, how should you proceed?
Four-way intersection with every traffic signal dark. Blue vehicle A approaches from the left and silver vehicle B from below, both before their stop lines. No officer or temporary traffic control is present.
Correct answer: Stop and use the intersection as an all-way stop
Why
The MTO handbook advises using an intersection with blank traffic lights the same way as an all-way stop. Stop, yield to vehicles already in the intersection and to vehicles entering from your right, and proceed cautiously only when the way is clear. Follow any officer or temporary traffic-control directions. This is handbook guidance, not a claim that an unlit signal itself creates a statutory four-way STOP sign.
Verified against MTO Driver’s Handbook — Traffic lights · Blank traffic lights: power loss, yielding to vehicles already in/from right, cautiously using intersection the same way as all-way stops.
