Passing target: 16 correct signs and 16 correct rules (TLA practice targets)
You intend to drive straight through an intersection, but a traffic queue beyond it leaves no room for your vehicle. According to the MTO handbook, what should you do?
A blue car approaches a four-way intersection. Marked crosswalks span each road. Red and grey cars form a queue just beyond the far crossing, with insufficient space for the blue car.
Correct answer: Wait until there is room to clear the intersection
Why
For this straight-through movement, stop before entering and wait for space beyond the intersection. The MTO handbook’s blocked-intersection instruction expressly separates turning movements. HTA section 145 authorizes municipal blocking-intersection bylaws and includes a signalled-turn exception; it is not an exception-free Ontario-wide ban on every time spent within an intersection. A driver already legally waiting inside to turn must still complete the turn only when safe.
Verified against MTO Driver’s Handbook — Driving through intersections · Controlled intersections: main-road straight-through approach to backed-up intersection; wait before entry, with turning movements expressly separated.
