Rain begins to fall on a highway where you have been using cruise control. Which plan follows the Oregon manual's advice for wet roads?
Correct answer: Turn off cruise control, brake sooner and more gently than usual, and leave more space ahead.
Why
Rain reduces tire grip and increases the distance that you need to stop, and even a summer shower can make the road slippery when water mixes with oil and dirt. With cruise control off, you can ease off the gas at once if the tires start to slip or hydroplane. Also turn on your headlights when you use your wipers, so that other drivers can see you.
