Passing target: 80% (28/35)
Your car breaks down on the shoulder of a curving two-lane highway. Drivers from both directions cannot see it until they are about 100 feet away. You have turned on your hazard lights. What else should you do?
A has broken down on the shoulder of a curving two-lane road. An enlarged car detail indicates that its hazard flashers are on. The card states that drivers from either direction see A only about 100 feet away; no warning location or required warning distance is shown.
Correct answer: Put flares, flags or signs at least 200 feet away in each direction
Why
At highway speed, a driver needs a long distance to see a hazard, slow down and move over. Warnings far from the car give that time. If you must leave the car, turn off the engine, remove the key, set the brakes and leave the hazard lights on.
