Passing target: 80% (28/35)
You approach a two-lane roundabout. You plan to take the third exit, which is to your left. How should you choose and use your lane?
A roadway view shows two approach lanes leading into a two-lane roundabout. The inner approach lane has arrows for ahead and left; the outer approach lane has arrows for ahead and right. The identified approach is on the left of the drawing. A card states that the intended destination is the third exit, to the driver’s left.
Correct answer: Pick your lane from the signs and arrows before you enter, and keep it to your exit.
Why
In a multi-lane roundabout, each lane leads to certain exits, so many crashes there come from lane changes inside the circle. Do not pass or drive beside a large truck in the roundabout, because the truck may need both lanes; Oregon law prohibits passing or driving beside a commercial motor vehicle there. If emergency vehicles approach, do not enter; if you are already inside, go on to your exit and then pull over to the right.
