Passing target: 80% (28/35)
You turn left from a two-way street onto a street with two lanes in each direction. You plan to turn right into a driveway one block later. Which lane should you enter at the end of your left turn?
A approaches a left turn from a two-way street. The receiving street has two lanes in each direction. The card states that A plans another right turn one block later, beyond the illustrated area.
Correct answer: The lane just right of the center line; then signal and change lanes once the turn is done.
Why
Many turning crashes happen when a driver swings wide or changes lanes in the middle of a turn. The rule of nearest lane to nearest lane keeps every turning car on a path that others can predict, such as the car that turns right from the opposite corner at the same time. If you need a different lane, finish the turn first, then signal and move over when there is a safe gap.
