Passing target: 80% (28/35)
On a two-lane road with a broken yellow center line, you follow a slow delivery truck up a hill. The top of the hill is just ahead, and you cannot see past it. What should you do?
A follows slow truck B uphill on a two-lane road with a broken yellow center line. A side-profile detail identifies the crest that hides the road beyond; no passing path is shown.
Correct answer: Stay behind the truck until you can see far enough ahead to pass safely
Why
A yellow Hill warning sign tells you that a steep grade is ahead, where large vehicles slow down and the top of the grade can hide oncoming cars. Passing is legal only when the left side of the road is clearly visible and free of oncoming traffic for the whole pass. Oregon law also prohibits driving on the left on a grade or curve with a blocked view, and at any intersection or railroad crossing. When in doubt, stay in your lane.
