Passing target: 80% (28/35)
On a snowy curve, the rear of your car starts to slide to the right, and the front begins to point toward the left side of the road. What should you do?
Blue A is on a snowy two-lane curve. Its front points toward the left side of its intended eastbound path, and a dark arrow at the rear shows the rear sliding toward the driver’s right. No steering response is shown.
Correct answer: Stay off the brakes, steer where you want the car to go, and turn back as it straightens.
Why
A skid happens when the tires lose their grip, usually because the speed is too high for the road surface. Keep your eyes and your steering on the path that you want to follow. A common mistake after the first correction is to hold the wheel too long: the car can then swing around the other way, so keep making small left and right corrections until you are back in control.
