You drive at highway speed when your right front tire blows out with a loud bang. The car pulls hard to the right. What should you do?
A travels on a two-lane highway with a visibly deflated right front tire and a clear shoulder on its right. The card states a sudden loud bang at highway speed and a hard pull to the right; no recovery path is selected.
Correct answer: Grip the wheel firmly, slow down gradually, and pull off the road when you can.
Why
A front-tire blowout makes steering hard and pulls the car to one side, and a rear-tire blowout makes the back of the car weave or sway. In both cases, keep control first and slow down second: hold the wheel firmly and ease off the gas. Good maintenance, such as regular tire checks, prevents most equipment failures.
