Passing target: 80% (28/35)
At a signal, two marked lanes turn left at the same time. You are in the right one of the two turn lanes. The street you turn onto has three lanes in your direction. How should you make the turn?
A and B face north in two lanes marked for left turns, with A in the right-hand lane. The signal detail is green. The receiving street has three westbound lanes, and dotted white paint connects the turn lanes to their matching receiving lanes.
Correct answer: Follow the turn markings, stay in your lane, and end the turn in the matching lane.
Why
Dual turn lanes move more cars on each green arrow, but only when every driver keeps to the marked path. Lane-use signs and pavement arrows tell you which lanes may turn, so choose your lane before the intersection. Watch the car beside you during the turn, because a driver who drifts out of the marked path can cause a sideswipe crash.
