Passing target: 80% (28/35)
A street has a center two-way left-turn lane. You will turn left into a store driveway about a quarter mile ahead. When should you move into the center lane?
A is in the through lane beside a two-way left-turn lane with opposing curved arrows. A store driveway is farther ahead on the opposite side. The card states that it is about a quarter mile ahead and that the drawing is schematic.
Correct answer: Just before the driveway, and then wait there until you can turn safely
Why
Drivers from both directions share this lane, so a car that travels along it can meet a turning car head-on. Waiting in the center lane lets the traffic behind you keep moving while you look for a gap. If you turn left out of a driveway into this lane, Oregon law lets you only stop there and then merge into the lane on your right.
