You want to park at the curb on a street that has a marked crosswalk at the next intersection. Where may you park?
A approaches in the travel lane before an intersection with a marked crosswalk. Space beside the right curb is empty, and no parking position or distance is selected.
Correct answer: At least 20 feet back from the crosswalk, so that drivers can see people who cross.
Why
A car parked close to a crosswalk can hide a person who steps into the street, especially a child. Pennsylvania law (75 Pa.C.S. 3353) forbids stopping, standing or parking on a crosswalk. The only exceptions are to avoid a conflict with traffic, or when a police officer or a traffic-control device directs you. The same law forbids parking within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection.
