A is travelling beside the yellow hatched area shown. How should the driver use this part of the roadway?
A close detail shows diagonal yellow hatching within yellow boundary lines on flat asphalt. No vehicle or direction of travel is visible in this detail.
Correct answer: Keep right and stay off the hatched area
Why
Crosshatch markings identify an area that is not for normal traffic use. In this example the yellow painted island separates opposing traffic, and A keeps to its right. Follow the marking colour, surrounding lines and any signs; do not treat the island as an extra lane or ordinary stopping place. This flat painted area is not the same thing as a raised median, and the illustration does not create an unshown driveway or crossing exception.
