Passing target: 75% in each of the three areas
A police vehicle with flashing warning lights is stopped on the right shoulder. Another lane goes in your direction and you can enter it safely. What must you do as you approach?
A blue car approaches a police vehicle stopped on the right shoulder with warning lights active. Two lanes run in the same direction.
Correct answer: Slow down and, when it is safe, move over to the other lane.
Why
For the shoulder situation shown, slow down and, when safe, change into another lane in the same direction to leave a lane between you and the stopped vehicle. If you cannot change lanes, stay in your lane and move as far from the stopped vehicle as possible. If a stopped emergency vehicle blocks your own lane, slow and stop if needed while waiting for a safe way around. Never force a lane change.
