On a two-lane road with a broken yellow center line, you follow a slow farm tractor up a hill. You cannot see past the top of the hill. What should you do?
A follows farm tractor B uphill on a two-lane road with a broken yellow center line. A separate side profile marks the crest; the question card states that A cannot see beyond it. No passing route or priority mark appears.
Correct answer: Stay behind the tractor until you can see far enough ahead to pass safely.
Why
Before you pass, the manual tells you to ask if the pass is legal, safe and worth it. Rhode Island law prohibits passing on the left near a hill crest or curve with a blocked view, within 100 feet of an intersection or railroad crossing, and within 100 feet of a bridge, viaduct or tunnel when the view is blocked. A slow vehicle costs you only a little time, but a head-on crash can cost your life.
