Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You drive on a two-lane road behind a bicyclist. Oncoming cars are near. What should you do?
A follows bicyclist B near the right edge of a two-lane road. Two silver cars, C and D, approach in the opposing lane. No passing path or clearance number is shown in the question image.
Correct answer: Wait until the oncoming cars pass, then pass with 3 to 5 feet or more.
Why
Rhode Island's 'Frank's Law' requires a safe passing distance: enough space to prevent contact if the bicyclist fell into your lane. Riders can swerve around potholes, glass or storm grates, so give extra room, and more in bad weather. After you pass, do not slow down or stop suddenly in front of the rider.
