You are in a left-turn lane. The signal for your lane shows a steady red arrow that points left. The signal for the through lanes is green. What must you do?
Blue A is in the marked left-turn lane under a steady red left arrow. Silver B is in the adjacent through lane going the same direction, with a green circular signal for through traffic; no chosen route is shown.
Correct answer: Stay stopped until a signal allows the left turn.
Why
Red arrows are used where turning traffic has its own signal phase. When the red arrow goes out, a green arrow, a flashing yellow arrow or a green light may follow. Stay behind the stop line and be ready for the next signal.
