Passing target: 20 correct signs and 20 correct rules
On an unlit road, A’s speed makes its stopping distance longer than the distance clearly visible ahead in the headlights. What does this mean?
Blue car A travels in its lane on an unlit two-way road. Its headlights illuminate part of the road ahead.
Correct answer: A is overdriving its headlights and must reduce speed.
Why
Overdriving the headlights means travelling too fast to stop within the visible road ahead. Reduce speed so there is enough distance to stop for a hazard. SGI also advises slowing as soon as you detect something on the road, while identifying it, rather than waiting until it is clear. Keep scanning ahead; darkness makes vulnerable road users and animals harder to see.
