Passing target: 20 correct signs and 20 correct rules
Blowing snow blends the sky, horizon and ground together. You have slowed down but still cannot see far enough ahead to continue safely. What should you do?
Correct answer: Find a safe place to get off the road as soon as you can.
Why
In a whiteout, sky, horizon and ground can blend together so that the road edge and ditch are difficult to distinguish. Reduce speed and use low beams in blowing snow. SGI's poor-visibility guidance says that if you have already slowed and still cannot see 12 seconds ahead, find a safe place as soon as possible and get off the road. Avoid continuing by following another vehicle's lights closely or making an abrupt stop in the traffic lane.
