Passing target: 20 correct signs and 20 correct rules
You need to brake urgently and have a clear, straight path in which to slow. What vehicle position should you aim to maintain?
Correct answer: Keep the wheels and vehicle aligned straight along the clear path.
Why
Where a clear straight braking path is available, keep the wheels and vehicle aligned with it and look where you want to go. Avoid unnecessary sharp steering while braking. This does not mean that every emergency must be handled by braking alone: the available escape path and the vehicle's equipment matter. SGI specifically explains that a vehicle with ABS can be braked firmly while steering toward a clear path when that is needed.
