Passing target: 20 correct signs and 20 correct rules
A deer suddenly enters A's lane. There is oncoming traffic to the left and a ditch to the right. What should A do immediately?
Blue car A approaches a deer in its lane. A silver car approaches in the opposite lane, and a ditch lies beside A's right shoulder.
Correct answer: Brake firmly, stay in control and do not swerve into either hazard.
Why
If an animal suddenly appears, SGI advises braking firmly while staying in control and avoiding a swerve that could send the vehicle into opposing traffic or the ditch. In this scene, keep the vehicle aligned with its lane while braking. Stop at a safe distance if there is time and remain alert because more animals may follow. The immediate response reduces risk; it does not guarantee that every animal collision can be avoided.
