Passing target: 20 correct signs and 20 correct rules
On an undivided road, a school bus is stopped with its red safety lights flashing and stop arm extended. What must drivers approaching from either direction do?
On an undivided road, school bus B has its red warning lamps flashing and stop arm extended. Car A approaches its rear and car C approaches from the opposite direction. An inset shows the red warning lamps.
Correct answer: Stop at least 5 m away and wait until the red lights and stop arm are off.
Why
Stop at least 5 m from the front or rear of the bus. Wait until the flashing red stop lamps and stop arm are deactivated, then check that children are safely clear before moving. Opposing traffic on a divided highway is exempt from this stopping rule. Local bylaws may prohibit use of the bus’s red lamps and stop arm; still slow down and watch carefully for children around any stopped bus.
