In a vehicle without ABS, what is the aim of threshold braking?
Correct answer: Brake as hard as possible without locking the wheels.
Why
Threshold braking uses the greatest braking force available just short of locking the wheels. In a vehicle without ABS, ease the pressure slightly if a wheel locks so the wheels roll again, then adjust the pressure near that threshold. More slippery surfaces require less pressure before lock-up. This requires skill and concentration. It is not an instruction to pump or ease off functioning ABS during an emergency; ABS calls for firm continuous pedal pressure.
