Passing target: 80% (24/30)
A bicyclist ahead of you in the right lane reaches a steady red light. The rider wants to go straight across the intersection. What does South Carolina law now allow the rider to do?
A waits behind bicyclist B in the right lane approaching a steady red light. B is before the stop line and wants to travel straight; no route or right-of-way selection is drawn before the answer.
Correct answer: Stop fully, yield to traffic that is an immediate hazard, and then go through with care.
Why
The rules for drivers of cars did not change: you still stop and wait for green, or turn right on red after a stop. A cyclist may also turn right on red without a full stop after slowing and yielding, and may turn left onto a one-way road after a stop and yield. When your light turns green, check for a cyclist who is already crossing and give the rider room.
