A bicyclist ahead of you holds the left arm out to the side with the elbow bent and the hand pointing up. What does the rider plan to do?
An enlarged hand-signal detail shows bicyclist B with the left upper arm out, elbow bent and hand pointing upward. The right hand remains on the handlebar. No other vehicle, traffic route or intended turn direction is selected.
Correct answer: Turn right.
Why
Drivers use the same arm signals from the left window (S.C. Code 56-5-2170). A rider may not signal when both hands are needed on the handlebars, so also watch for clues such as a head turn or a look over the shoulder. Give the rider room to complete the turn.

What should you do?A bicyclist ahead of you in the right lane reaches a steady red light. The rider wants to go straight across the intersection. What does South Carolina law now allow the rider to do?You wait to turn at a two-way stop. A bicyclist on the cross street slows down at the stop sign, sees no pedestrians and no moving traffic near the intersection, and rides through without a full stop. How does South Carolina law treat the rider's action? You drive in the right lane of a four-lane highway with two lanes in your direction. Ahead, a pickup truck is stopped on the right shoulder with its hazard lights flashing. No police, fire, EMS or tow vehicle is there. The left lane is clear. What does South Carolina law require you to do?On a dry road, you follow a motorcycle. Just ahead, railroad tracks cross the road at an angle. How should you set your following distance? On a four-lane road, you are behind a motorcycle that rides in the left part of your lane. There seems to be room to pass it in the right part of the same lane. What should you do?
