Your engine starts to lose power on a two-lane rural highway, and you must stop. Where should you put the car?
A is losing power on a two-lane rural highway. A level roadside area is available beyond the right edge, with no hill crest shown.
Correct answer: Off the road and away from traffic, with the emergency flashers on
Why
Many crashes happen because a driver does not see a disabled car until it is too late to stop. If you have flares, the manual says to place them about 200 to 300 feet behind the car so that other drivers have time to change lanes. Then call for help; if the engine will not restart, raise the hood to show that you have trouble.
