You wait in a left-turn lane. The signal shows a red light and a green arrow that points left. A pedestrian is still in the crosswalk of the street that you will turn onto. What should you do?
Blue car A waits in a left-turn lane with a red circular light and a green left arrow facing it. Pedestrian B is still in the marked crossing of the street to the left.
Correct answer: Turn left after the pedestrian has cleared your path across the street
Why
While the green arrow is on, oncoming and crossing traffic should be stopped, so your turn is protected from them. When the arrow changes to yellow, its protection is ending: prepare to stop, or yield to oncoming traffic before you turn. A red arrow means that you may not turn in that direction until a green arrow or green light comes on.
