At night on a two-lane highway, your headlights suddenly go out. What should you do?
Blue A faces east in the near lane of a dark two-lane highway. Its headlights have failed; the right shoulder is visible. No switch action, route, stop marker or nearby lead vehicle appears.
Correct answer: Try the headlight switch; if that fails, use the flashers and pull off the road
Why
Without headlights, you cannot see the road, and other drivers may not see you. A quick try of the headlight switch sometimes brings the lights back. If it does not, make the car as easy to see as you can, leave the road at the first safe place, and have the lights repaired before you drive at night again.
