Safe & Responsible DrivingStandalone practice
A driver who has had a few drinks drives home at night. How does the alcohol affect the driver's vision?
Correct answer: It relaxes the eye muscles, slows recovery from glare, and narrows side vision.
Why
The eyes give a driver almost 90 percent of the information used in driving. With relaxed eye muscles, the eyes do not focus well, and each eye may see a slightly different picture, so distances are hard to judge. These changes make head-on and rear-end crashes more likely, especially at night.
