Your car's exhaust has become louder than usual. On a long drive with the windows closed, you and your passenger both start to feel very sleepy. What should you do?
Correct answer: Open a window for fresh air, and have the exhaust repaired right away.
Why
The exhaust system carries hot, poisonous gases such as carbon monoxide to the back of the car, and many leaks cannot be heard. Never run the engine in a closed garage or when snow or mud blocks the tailpipe, and do not sleep in a parked car with the engine running. Tennessee law also requires a muffler that works and runs all the time; excessive or unusual noise or smoke means that it does not meet the law.
