Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You wait at a crossing with two tracks and no gates. A long freight train passes on the near track, and its last car clears the crossing. What must you do before you drive across?
A waits before two railroad tracks. The last freight car has cleared the roadway on the near track and continues right, still blocking part of the view toward the far track. A crossbuck has a 2 TRACKS plaque; no gates are present.
Correct answer: Look and listen both ways again for a second train on the other track.
Why
A passing train blocks your view, and its noise can cover the sound of a second train. Where there is more than one track, a train can come from the opposite direction as soon as the first one clears. Wait until you can see down all the tracks in both directions, and never assume that the crossing is safe because one train has passed.
