Passing target: 80% (32/40)
Your car stalls on a railroad crossing and will not restart. A train is coming toward the crossing. You and your passenger get out of the car. Which way should you run?
A has stalled across the railroad tracks as train B approaches from the left. Two people stand outside A beside its doors. No escape direction is marked.
Correct answer: Away from the tracks and toward the train, at about a 45-degree angle.
Why
If your vehicle stalls on the tracks, everyone must get out at once and move away, even if no train is in sight. When a train is coming, go toward it at an angle so that you end up behind the point of impact. When you are safe, call the number on the Emergency Notification System (ENS) sign at the crossing (usually blue) and give the crossing number, or call 911 if you cannot find the sign.
