A fire truck with its siren on passes you on its way to a fire alarm, and you pull over as the law requires. After it goes by, you continue on the same street in the same direction. What is the closest that you may follow the fire truck?
Correct answer: No closer than 500 feet behind the fire truck
Why
Emergency crews need room to stop, turn and set up their equipment without a car close behind them. Texas law also bars you from driving into or parking in the block where a fire truck has stopped at a fire, and from parking where you block an ambulance at an emergency. Stay back, and never follow an emergency vehicle to get through traffic faster.
