You follow a tractor-trailer on a highway. From your seat, you cannot see the truck driver's face in either of the truck's side mirrors. What does this tell you, and what should you do?
Blue car A follows white tractor-trailer B in the right lane of a highway. The card states that neither side mirror shows B’s driver. No blind-spot shape, suggested gap, high beams or mirror-face inset appears.
Correct answer: The driver probably cannot see you, so drop back until you see the driver's face
Why
A large truck has a big blind spot directly behind it and along its sides. The manual's rule of thumb is that if you cannot see the truck driver in a side mirror, the driver cannot see you. Staying back also lets you see farther down the road and gives the truck driver a chance to warn you of a stop or a turn.
