Traffic Signals & Road MarkingsStandalone practice
You drive on a highway that has a signal over each lane. The signal over the left lane shows a red X. The signals over the other lanes show green arrows that point down. The left lane looks empty. What should you do?
Three highway lanes each have an aligned overhead control. The empty left lane has a red X; the middle and right lanes have green downward arrows. No learner car or movement route is supplied.
Correct answer: Stay out of the left lane, and drive only in the lanes under a green arrow.
Why
Lane-use signals open and close lanes when traffic or road conditions change. A lane under a red X can look empty because it is closed. Obey the signal over each lane, and change lanes early and smoothly when your lane closes.
