You drive at the speed limit toward a green light. The light turns steady yellow when your front bumper is almost at the crosswalk. A hard stop now would leave your car in the crosswalk. What should you do?
Blue A faces a steady yellow signal with its front bumper just short of a marked crosswalk. The intersection and crossing are empty. The card says the light has turned yellow and A is almost at the crosswalk; no route, braking cue or answer instruction is shown.
Correct answer: Continue through the intersection with care, because you cannot stop safely.
Why
A steady yellow light warns you that the green light has ended and that red comes next. Watch the signal as you come near, so that you can decide early: stop smoothly when there is room, or continue with care when you are too close. A late panic stop and a race against the red light both cause crashes.
