Observation, Speed & SpaceStandalone practice
You drive a car on a paved county road in open country, outside any urban district. The road has no state or U.S. highway number, and you have not seen a speed limit sign. What is the highest lawful speed under good conditions?
Correct answer: 60 mph
Why
When no other limit is posted, Texas uses 30 mph in an urban district, 70 mph on a highway that has a Texas or U.S. number (including farm-to-market roads) outside an urban district, and 60 mph on other roads outside an urban district. The state, counties and cities may post different limits after a traffic study, and the posted sign then controls. A lawful limit is the maximum for good conditions; you must drive slower when rain, traffic or curves make that speed unsafe.
