A passenger says that the shoulder part of the safety belt is uncomfortable. Which way of wearing the lap-and-shoulder belt is correct?
A passenger sits in the front seat with the belt unfastened and its shoulder section resting at the door pillar. The card introduces an uncomfortable shoulder belt and asks how to position its sections.
Correct answer: Lap belt low across the hips and shoulder belt snug across the shoulder and chest
Why
Utah law requires every driver and passenger to wear a properly adjusted and fastened safety belt. A belt keeps you inside the vehicle and helps you keep control of it; a person thrown from a car is 23 times more likely to be killed. Wear the belt on every trip and at every speed, because 70 percent of crashes happen at less than 40 mph.
